Planet Fitness contracted with H.J. Martin and Son to build out their new location at 1640 West Mason Street, in Green Bay, WI. The relocation allowed for a much larger space and a more convenient location for their customers to access.
The new location is a 22,500 sq. ft. building that went from a white box to a fully finished space. It took the combined efforts of all five H.J. Martin and Son commercial divisions (Walls & Ceilings, Commercial Flooring, Doors & Hardware, Glass & Glazing, Millwork and Fixtures) to complete the project. Each division had its own unique tasks to complete throughout the project.
The 12-week project timeline allowed for all of the divisions to complete their portion of the job with around 30 installers working on the job from beginning to end. It also allowed Planet Fitness to stay open at their previous location for the duration of the project until they were ready to move in the gym equipment at the new location.
This project faced a few challenges that the H.J. Martin and Son team was able to overcome. One of the challenges that H.J. Martin and Son overcame during the project was in regard to the building’s maximum power abilities. When H.J. Martin and Son first started to work on the building, the power was not large enough to accommodate all of the various gym equipment that Planet Fitness had. H.J. Martin and Son worked very closely with Wisconsin Public Service (a company who serves electric and natural gas customers in northeast and central Wisconsin) to ensure that this could be fixed and that everything could still be done according to their 12-week timeframe. The team also needed to work closely with various subcontractors who supplied the materials for the job to make sure that everything was delivered and installed within the set schedule. This called for clear communication and flexibility as H.J. Martin and Son was both the tenant’s general contractor and the landlord of the building.
